How Does the Public Sector Work Essay - 1683 Words

If you dont understand how the public sector is supposed to work, how can you ensure that it is working? An easy definition of public administration is, â€Å"the implementation of government policies† (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2010), or, â€Å"the implementation of public policy† (Infoplease.com, 1997). While policies and procedures seem to be continuously up for debate, it should be noted that, an informed public are the only sure-fire way to ensure that the public sector stays on track with meeting the needs of its constituents. People, as a whole, tend to appreciate good leaders. â€Å"It is the task of a leader to connect people with purpose† (Blunt, 2007). Why does this help us in the public sector? To paraphrase J.D. Straussman, leaders†¦show more content†¦As previously reviewed, the four functions of Public Administration are organization (structure and process), personnel administration (and collective bargaining), decision making, and budgeting and finance (Becketts, 2010). While all of these things have their place in the private and public sectors, weve seen in recent years, that the public sector has a genuine problem with the budgeting and financing aspects of itself. Problems begin with the the fact that, as constituents, we are overly trusting of the politicians that we elect to office and have not taken the time to learn the truth behind the matters. Unfortunately, in todays world, it appears that our politicians are more concerned about being re-elected than the needed t ransparency within the public sector. The current Wikileaks scandal seems proof positive that we do need more governmental transparency. Do we really know how the government is doing our budgeting? Have we read through the, sometimes, thousands of pages of budget bills in Congress? Have your legislators read those pages? How can we know for sure? The truth is, we cant know. But, we can exercise our rights to learn the truth, hold politicians and legislators responsible for their actions, and fight to ensure the health, safety, of our constituents. Movement of Modernism Essay Example For Students

Movement of Modernism Essay Modernism described as movement in arts would best be described as a movement that was used to unit America after a period of crisis, it did this by it being centered on explorations into the spiritual nature of men and the value of his society and institutions. In a way it was like realism they too focused on the changes on society. The modernistic writers always wrote in a very formal defined form. Modernism also played a very important role as a movement in poetry. The way modernism did this was it brought so much more opportunity to the poet as a way of writing. The poet is now able to express themselves in new ways. If it was not for modernism who knows if we would be talking about the works of Emily Dickinson today, after all it was modernism that got her poetry discovered. Modernism is what kicked off Twentieth- Century American Literature. The authors of this modernistic period had the same goals so naturally wrote using the same ideas, methods, and principles. Modernists like realists both wanted to paint an unbiased, accurate picture of society by confronting the problems of the individual and of the society. The only difference in the two is the difference in societies. These principles could be called the tenents of Modernism. My working definition of modernism would be a movement in American Literature that allowed writers to be able to express themselves but at the same time be able to celebrate the changes that are accruing around them. This movement also allowed poets to write about anything that they saw which was thought to be modern. In short I guess it is somewhat safe to say that their writings reflect ongoing changes that are occurring in their society. As far representative themes go my definition ties into that. In nineteen thirty Hart Crane made a visionary pilgrimage though Americas geographical and emotional space. Around this time Crane published his epic poem The Bridge, which celebrates the Brooklyn Bridge as both an architectural achievement and a symbol of American modernity. Because of the type of descriptive writing that was being used the voice in the writings were in deep detail and strong emphasis on words were also used to help get the point across. This time in American Literature is a very important one. Without this strong movement we today would not have the please of being able to read someone such as Hart Crane and Ezra Pound, Eliot and Stevens along with Frost. This would be a major loss for the great American Literature as well as a loss to American History.
